Heavy Rain

I took today off to eat some time and decided to play Heavy Rain on the PS3. I played it all afternoon and finished it. The game is a phenomenal interactive movie experience.

The game is about a series of murder by a serial killer named the 'Origami Killer'. You play a number of characters involved in the investigation; from victim to detective. The interaction with the game world is at times stiff, but always imaginative. Some of the Quick Time Events were annoying, but never to the point of frustration.

You make some choices during the game and unlike other games, they are natural and there are no 'take-backs' as the game doesn't have saves. Things happen. You don't really rewind time, but retry actions. It makes for a compelling experience.

I liked the story overall, but I did not care for the 'reveal' as it didn't make sense logically. Also, if you thought the scene in the latest Indiana Jones movie where he survived a nuke in a refrigerator laughable, there is one scene like that in the game. Other than niggling quibbles though, it's a game I'd recommend anyone with a PS3 try. Or if you know someone with a PS3, invite yourself over and camp out in front of Heavy Rain.
